Omer Y. Ozusta

Born and raised in Fairfax, Virginia, Omer is a second-generation child who spent his summers in his parents’ native Turkey. This upbringing has given him a unique perspective on the immigrant family experience, as he is an active participant in the great American experiment—living life in a culture different from the one experienced at home, and away from his native family.

A product of Fairfax’s school system, he then went to school near the birthplace of America at the College of William and Mary, earning his B.A. in Government/Political Science. Missing home after college, he moved back to the Washington, D.C. area, receiving his J.D. from the Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law.

Omer’s early career in private practice encompassed the areas of civil litigation and family law, among others. Having found these areas of the law to be dispiriting to his generally gregarious nature, he spent time with Bloomberg Law (and its predecessor BNA) researching and developing corporate, tax and accounting products for the legal and accounting marketplace.

He went back into private practice at a regional firm, focusing on estate and gift tax planning, as well as personal and business asset protection strategies, including drafting, reviewing, and analyzing estate planning documents, and creating and developing corporate and non-profit entities.

Working with clients while practicing in estate and trust administration, he found it especially rewarding helping people during one of the most challenging times in their lives: those moments after losing a loved one. With PJI Law, Omer’s practice encompasses primarily estate and trust administration, but the wealth of knowledge in other areas of the law gives him a unique perspective on problem-solving a range of legal matters for clients. Having a holistic perspective on the challenges clients face in life gives him the opportunity to guide clients to outcomes that are hard to see during those fraught moments.

When he’s not in the office, Omer enjoys taking his wife and two kids to the places he enjoyed in his youth: the parks and libraries of Fairfax County, and the ancient cities (but mostly beaches) of Turkey. He is also trying really hard to love the family’s two new cats, Duman and Pumpkin.
